Earlier within the day, the president had been anticipated at that press occasion to announce an government motion mandating that individuals within the census be requested if they’re a U.S. citizen or not.

The Supreme Court docket in a call final month successfully barred the Trump administration from including such a query to the census, because it had deliberate to do.

Final week, administration officers mentioned census varieties could be printed with out the query.

However on the heels of their feedback, Trump introduced on Twitter that he wouldn’t abandon the hassle so as to add the query.

“We are absolutely moving forward, as we must, because of the importance of the answer to this question,” Trump wrote.

He later advised reporters, when requested if he would situation an government order: “We’re thinking about doing that.”

“It’s one of the ways,” he added. “We have four or five ways we can do it. It’s one of the ways and we’re thinking about doing it very seriously.”
